K league 5 games in

The K league is 5 games in and so I thought I may as well give my thoughts on the teams while I’m at work in front of a computer but have no inclination to do any work thanks to getting home at 2:00 am last night after my trip to Ulsan.

Suwon Samsung Bluewings
Top of the league and our man Eddie Bosnar has fitted right in like he’s been there for years. Playing pretty simple football there imports are all doing well and they have a pretty good collection of individuals. It is the type of football that might have to evolve if they are to maintain this place in the latter stage of the year.

Gwangju FC
Big surprise factor and I haven’t seen much of them. Capable of scoring goals they have quickly favoured curry with neutrals. Still 39 games to go but would have had a great season if they are in the top 8 come the second stage.

Jeju United
Madaschi has looked the goods when fit and playing.Team is starting to look ominous.

Ulsan Hyundai
Great squad but seem to have a split personality with mixed levels of desire.

FC Seoul
Have looked very good in patches but haven’t yet clicked. Defininitely have the quality to contend.

Daegu FC
Getting into the mid table teams now and Daegu strike me as a little light to compete for 44 games.

Pohang Steelers
Will be disappointed at their start, but a bit of turnover means a top 8 finish for the first stage is probably a pass and then hope to show a little more in the second stage. Not a title contender this year for mine.

Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC
Really up and down and really highlighting the weakness of making a call after just 5 league matches. Their ACL form has been dire which makes things feel even worse but along with Seongnam their results are already starting to become “important”.

Sangju Sangmu Phoenix
Good start and plenty of goals for a team with nothing to lose…. because they have already lost (they will be automatically relegated regardless of results).

Busan I´Park
If I was writing this a week ago it would be pretty negative but a late winner away from home against Seongnam means they have to be feeling good now. Matt Mackay looks good but rusty and not quite in sync with his Busan team mates yet.

Chunnam Dragons
Not the most attractive team to watch. Cornthwaite has been a regular and has a had a mixed season. Some defensive errors but not alone in that regard for Chunnam and actually looks quite dangerous in the opponents half. Matt Simon has been in and out of the team and hasn’t yet settled.

Gangwon FC
Nothing to see here.

Gyeongnam FC
Absolutely awful. Shipping a lot of goals isn’t down to Devere but it’s not a great place to be if you are a defender.

Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma
A slow start was expected but not this slow.

Incheon United
The worst team to watch. At least Daejon have no money and will concede a few. Incheon have some good players but zero ambition on the pitch. Burns hasn’t played much and I hope for his sake they don’t make him watch Incheon’s games.

Daejeon Citizen
Looking gone already.
