Located where I am in Korea it was a toss up between Suwon and Seoul FC as to which K league team was easiest to get to.
Suwon is closer as the crow flys but Seoul play out of Seoul World Cup stadium which has its own subway stop to make up for it.
I initially felt Suwon would be the better choice with their “true blue” motto, beating the evil Sydney FC and vocal foreigner community (the Outside View podcast team are mainly Suwon fans).
Perusing their websites though I just didn’t feel the love from Suwon as I did from Seoul. The English option for Suwon involves clicking on an American flag…. Call me soft but that was a deal breaker (if there wasn’t an alternative option I would harden up and deal with it obviously).
It felt like cheating, “well I’m not really American but I am going to click on this flag anyway because this is just too much Hangul for me”.
Seoul on the other hand have the much more palatable “English” option and no it’s not a little Union Jack :P
It was obviously meant to be as soon after making the choice “where going to Seoul” I was followed on Twitter by 김병혁 (FC Seouls Expat marketing guy) and a couple of days latter posted the above flyer.
How did they know I had decided to go to a Seoul game?
How did they know I like beer and Hot dogs?
Must be love.
